The Site is located on Highway No. 29, approximately 13.5 kilometers northeast of the intersection of Canyon Drive and Highway No. 29 in Hudson’s Hope and breaks away from Highway No. 29 for 1.4 kilometers before tying back into Highway No. 29.

The general nature of the work carried out under the contract consisted of:

  • Construction of 1.22 kilometers of Highway No. 29 to two lanes
  • Construction of a 158-meter-long bridge over Dry Creek involving:
    • Excavation, stabilization, and slope treatment of the bridge abutment embankments
    • Installation of shear piles
    • Installation of piled foundations complete with rock socket
    • Construction of cast-in-place bridge abutments and piers
    • Supply, fabrication, and erection of steel girders
    • Supply and installation of pier bearing assemblies
    • Supply and installation of abutment bearings
    • Supply and installation of expansion joints at each abutment; and
    • Construction of cast-in-place bridge deck and parapets.

The Work will involve most common aspects of highway construction, as well as, without limitation, the following complex or unusual aspects:

  • Excavation and disposal of Potential Acid Generating (PAG) material (shale) at the rock socket, abutments, and slope treatment areas.
  • Rock Dowel installation and shotcrete slopes
  • Controlled Stripping
