Jonathan Andrew Vandenberg, EIT

Bid Team & Preconstruction Lead, Senior Estimator

In his role as Senior Estimator, Jonathan acts as estimating lead, looks after tender analysis and tracking of bids, conducts contract analysis for considerations/risks/submittals for estimating, completes pre- qualification packages, develops construction scheduling, material take-offs and vendor solicitation, budgets, quotes, estimate completion and submission, and much more. He is a proud contributor to the projects team and is proud of his role in Formula’s successful project bids.

Before joining Formula, Jonathan worked with IBI Group doing civil design, estimating, budgeting for clients, and site survey and construction management. In this role, he designed a large residential subdivision (500+ lots) from conceptual to detailed design, completing the survey, layout and construction management of the subdivision from farmer's field to constructed houses.

As a leader, Jonathan believes in giving his team the tools to do their job correctly without micromanaging their work. He believes this allows them to find the best way to do their work while fostering creativity to find new solutions for existing problems. For Jonathan, working at Formula is about building trust and trusting others based on mutual respect. He tries to do this in his work and
everyday life by treating others the way he'd like to be treated.

Jonathan is a huge proponent of a flexible work schedule and in allowing employees to have the freedom to take time off to maintain a good work-life balance. Indeed, for him this is part of Formula's greatest strength; supporting its employees and ensuring people can take pride in what they do. Jonathan believes Formula is only as successful as its employees and giving everyone the tools to do
their work efficiently and professionally allows Formula to grow.

In the coming years, Jonathan would like to see the company take on more in the bridge and mine construction sector while acquiring additional companies under the Formula Group of Companies. He believes this will allow Formula to perform full, turn-key construction projects and enable the company to complete full scopes of work.

For Jonathan, Formula has been a great company to work for. He has felt supported in his work life and his personal life. He believes that Formula employees all share a similar mindset, allowing everyone to work together seamlessly in a professional setting.

Outside of work, Jonathan is quite the tailor and believes sewing his own clothes lets him take pride in what he wears. Currently, he is reading book three of The Wheel of Time: The Shadow Rising by Robert Jordan. He says he enjoys fantasy novels because they allow you to get lost in the possibility of new worlds.
